Today I spent 6 hours learning the very minuscule basics of Unreal and completed a few flat renders of a pixel sprite of Luxray from Pokemon.
These are my progress shots:
Starting out I followed the video tutorial on making a flat plane and cube in Maya and importing into Unreal to add materials and my pixel reference image to the plane as a texture.

I then began creating my parent material to apply to the cubes for color and effects. |

This is with the base shape completed and my materials laid out. |

I then created a blueprint out of the grouped -but ungrouped- cubes and added lighting to the scene. |

This is before I added a base with lights and attempted some animation of floating and rotating.
